Golden Week ~ *~*
So for the week after Mid-Autumn festival theres National day ( the founding day of the PRC) and then golden week, so the kids were off for school!

We mostly stayed home because it's hot. BUT
We took a couple of day trips out, one to Hong Kong to visit a museum and the other to an Amusement park called Window of the World, which had a bunch of replicas of famous monuments and street preformances, and a splash pad area.
In Hong Kong we ate at a little place literally a minute's walk from our bus stop at Wan Chai station, and i think it was called boat noodle, but it was really good. A set meal cost between 68-88hkd, which came with the plate of food and a drink. I got a tasty vwggie noodle dish, ollie got hainan chicken, Nolan got a spicy pork curry, and keith got a pork noodle dish but his had blood in it. The servers at the noodle shop were impressed with nolans spice tolerance, though he did have to steal some of Oliver's rice to cool his mouth a little. A delicious meal!
After the noodle shop we headed to the Hong Kong Museum of Art, which had some interesting exhibitions about trade and commerce in the area (specifically HK, Macau, and Guangzhou). Its really easy to forget that Shenzhen didn't exist until after the country opened up a bit more in the 80s, but looking at the city and how sprawling it is, the idea of this metropolis being a millennial innovation is kind of wild. There were a lot of ornately decorated fans and calligraphy, but also some typical pewterwares and gorgeous silk designs. Oliver's favorite was this one:
And nolan liked the selection of maps they had on display ( heres one of them)
There was an exhibit on how calligraphers celibrated their birthdays so the boys made little cards :

Here's a slideshow of the pictures I took! It will take you to google photos, and if you go into the top right corner and hit the three dots it'll give you the option to view it as a slideshow. :)
In window of the world it was just a huge walking tour. The first thing we did was get these super neat passports and they got to stamp all of the countries! It was a bit of an assembly line so it was a little rushed but the kids really enjoyed referring to them during our visit.
The next thing we did was wait in line for a da Vinci themed monorail and there were some people who were asking about where we were from. Ollie tried to get Nolan to play rock paper scissors (but the chinese version) but he didnt want to, so he started with this elder woman who just seemed so excited that he knew what it was. It was a cool thing. Also Pennsylvania in chinese is bing-xi-fan-ia. Pretty cool.
We saw tons of mini-monuments, at water ice and ice cream, fed koi, and managed to not get sunburnt. I say it was a fantastic day.
Another google photos album :)
Well definitely be coming back!
The boys said they had a great time during the break !
Catch up again soon!
